The University of Michigan Club of Greater Boston announces its recipients of the Lee Steffenhagen Scholarship for 2009

The University of Michigan Club of Greater Boston is happy to announce this year’s first and second place recipients of the Lee Steffenhagen Scholarship. The first place winner and recipient of a $2,000 scholarship is Brandon Grimes of Milton, MA. Close on Brandon’s heels is our second place winner and recipient of a $1,000 scholarship, Alexander Ivanov Nestorov of Action, MA.

Brandon Grimes is a junior majoring in music with many laurels and accomplishments to his credit. He has been an honors student since coming to Michigan, holds a 3.9 GPA, and has been invited to perform on several doctoral dissertations and masters recitals with students from the prestigious collaborative piano program, including performance of Brahm’s Liebeslieder Watzer with the renowned Prof. Martin Katz on the piano. He also won the National Association of Teachers of Singing award his freshman year. Brandon’s goal is to attend graduate school for music and eventually become a performer on the opera/musical theater stage.

Michigan Football Game Watching Kicks off September 5th

Don't watch football at home. Singing Hail to the Victors just isn't the same unless you're cheering elbow-to-elbow with other Wolverine fans and your bartender is wearing Maize and Blue. You'll also have weekly opportunities to win Michigan gear (free drawing for alumni club members—bring your Michigan alumni association card). So, watch all of the games with us—it's just like being in Ann Arbor. And, this year you have two options!

Tavern in the Square in Porter Square is our first location in Cambridge. We will have the backroom during all football games. A full menu will be available as well as free 3 hours parking with your Michigan Alumni ID. Also receive 10% of your meal if you show your Alumni ID. Registration for the Sunday-only co-ed Fall alumni softball team (often referred to around these parts as the "Frostbite League") is now open. If you are interested, please email Club President Matt Englander at mkenglandergmail.com. Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Here is some important info about the team/league. Please be sure to read this before responding with any questions in case your question is answered below:

There will be 2 alumni teams in the Fall: a weeknight team and a Sunday-only team...currently there are only spots available on the Sunday-only team, however if you'd like to sub for the weeknight team please let me know.

Research in leadership has drawn distinction between leader development and leadership development. In the case of leader development the emphasis is on human capital, and developing individual knowledge, skills and abilities. Leadership development focuses on building the network relationships that create organizational value.

This presentation examines the characteristics of college basketball coaching lineages that are consistently successful in perpetuating leader development. The roles of both mentoring and social networking will be discussed in this evaluation of coaching lineages. In depth research, inclusive of 30 interviews with college basketball coaches, helped to evaluate critical success factors across generations of leadership. This research also found a relationship between the coaching lineages and success outcomes of those coaches. The presentation will also extend the characteristics of these successful mentoring networks to other professional contexts and discuss relevant applications for individuals and organizations.
